To bring the words of Erica Weekes' to life, Sarah chose a moody and emotional approach to a mixed-media portrait conveying the emotions felt by the author in this personal editorial. Sarah started with a realistic pencil drawing of the figure using original references. She layered conté over the figure in a random yet rhythmic way to evoke the stress, anxiety, and fear of isolation. Taking these two analogue pieces into Adobe Photoshop, Sarah began to copy and paste, manipulate, and filter a number of layers to build intensity and achieve the desired look. She finished with a crinkled paper-like filter to contribute to the overall hand-rendered aesthetic of StyleCircle's 06 issue.
